The phrase “Touch of Elbow” is an old military term that dates back to the Civil War era and earlier. It describes the tight, disciplined formation soldiers maintained while marching or fighting — each man keeping his elbow lightly touching the next soldier’s elbow.
This physical connection ensured alignment, unity, and cohesion within the ranks. If every soldier kept that “touch of elbow,” the line would move as one — steady, coordinated, and strong, even under the chaos of battle.
Over time, “Touch of Elbow” came to symbolize solidarity, trust, and teamwork — the idea that when everyone stays connected and supports the person beside them, the group holds firm no matter what comes their way.
Clearfield County Liberty Tree
On May 10, 2025 Clearfield County celebrated the planting of the official PA 250 Liberty Tree in Osceola Mills! This historic tree is a direct descendant of the original and symbolic Liberty Tree from Boston. We celebrate our pioneer Revolutionary War patriots who made Clearfield County what it is today!

As Pennsylvania prepares to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, America250PA is investing in the next generation of leaders.
We’re awarding $250,000 in Semiquincentennial Scholarships to Pennsylvania high school seniors continuing their education right here at home.
Who can apply?
Pennsylvania high school seniors planning to attend an accredited Pennsylvania college or university for the 2026–2027 academic year.
What’s awarded?
• 25 scholarships
• $10,000 each
• Distributed across America250PA’s six regions
Where can they be used?
• Any Pennsylvania college or university
• Up to 12 awards for community college students
• Up to 13 awards for students attending four-year institutions
When?
Scholarships will be awarded in 2026 for the **2026–2027 academic year.
